TIMELINE OF EVENTS
NOVEMBER 1, 1987
- 3pm - Joel Steinberg woke up and asked Hedda and Lisa if they drank water that day. When Hedda told him that they haven't, Steinberg made her and Lisa eat hot pepper. Afterwards, Steinberg stated that he will be going out for dinner. After a few minutes, Lisa asked her mother if Steinberg is gonna take her with him. Nussbaum told Lisa to go and ask him herself. Lisa went into Steinberg's bedroom while Nussbaum went to the bathroom.
- 6pm - Joel entered the bathroom with an unconscious Lisa, limp in his arms. When asked about what happened, Steinberg replied, "What's the difference what happened? This is your child. Hasn't this gone far enough?" He laid the unconscious child on the bathroom floor and left to finish changing while Nussbaum tries to revive her but not getting any response.
- 7pm - Steinberg was ready to leave. He told Nussbaum to relax and stay with Lisa and promised that "he would get her up when got back."
- While he was out, Steinberg called the apartment to ask how Lisa was. At this time, Lisa was still lying unconscious on the bathroom floor. Nussbaum continued to try and revive Lisa with no success and eventually gave up, opting to rearrange Steinberg's files instead.
