TIMELINE OF EVENTS DURING THE TRIAL
NOVEMBER 6, 1987- Joel Steinberg was indicted for second degree murder, first degree manslaughter, and endangering the welfare of a child.
OCTOBER 25, 1988 - The trial opened.
OCTOBER 26, 1988 - It was announce that Hedda Nussbaum would not be charged in any way for Lisa's death under the expectation that she will become the star witness against Joel Steinberg.

NOVEMBER 12, 1988 - Dr. Aglae Charlot said in her testimony that Lisa may have died from blunt force trauma as the result of a homicide. Dr. Mary Lell and Dr. Douglas C. Miller also came up with the same conclusion that Lisa injuries could have only been a result of a forceful blow that could have only been cause by Steinberg.
NOVEMBER 25, 1988 - After remaining silent for a long time, Joel wrote a letter to Newsday expressing his love for Lisa, saying, "My feelings for Lisa are almost inexpressible. She was the world to me." He also expressed his concern about the validity of what Hedda Nussbaum might have to say once she takes the stand.

The Prosecutor cited 31 specific instances of alleged abuse and the judge allowed five of them to be admitted. She also told the court about her use of cocaine with Joel and with friends.

She said that she believed she was hypnotized and began seeking sexual activity and how she believed that she might have gotten Lisa involved in such activities when she was only two and a half years old.
